Handcrafted in Portugal, L’archet Lusitania bows are made by highly skilled artisans who combine years of experience with the finest wood to create bows of exceptional beauty, playability, and sound.
The making of a fine bow begins with the careful selection of the wood stick. The key characteristics sought are strength, elasticity, and tonal potential. The trained eye and hand of the bowmaker determine which sticks have the qualities needed to become exceptional bows.
Once selected, the blanks undergo turning, rough carving, and bending to establish the basic camber. Throughout this process, the wood is continuously inspected to ensure structural integrity and long-term performance. The bowmaker then shapes the stick and fine-tunes its camber and balance. At this stage, the bow is haired, and the frog and head plate are precisely fitted. L’archet Lusitânia bows are all fitted with Elforyn tips—a German-made, synthetic ivory alternative that is both humidity-resistant and classically elegant.
The bow is finished in a controlled environment, gradually sanded to a fine polish, and treated with traditional French polish. Decorative windings—silver, gold, or synthetic whalebone—are chosen to perfect the bow’s weight, balance, and visual harmony. After a final inspection, the maker proudly stamps their name, completing a process where craftsmanship, tradition, and artistry converge.
